Excited to see the 1000 islands we decided to head out Monday morning. Our early morning exit was delayed by fueling up and an unfortunate dropping of the water cap into Lake Ontario. Luckily there was a hardware store within a ten minute walk that carried replacements.
As you exit Kingston harbour you are thrust into big lake chop. Thankfully the wind was fairly tame and we bobbed a bit but nothing too severe. As you leave Kingston you pass Royal Military College on your left where Jenn’s dad Barry earned his stripes…err stars…err ya I know nothing about the military or navy. On the right is Cedar island with a nice tower that I am going to assume is a former military lookout tower to keep the Yankees at bay.

A few Kms in and the water is pretty calm and easy boating. You of course pass many beautiful islands! At Howe island you can choose to take the main shipping channel or the northern Bateau channel which is more sheltered so we chose that route. We wanted a pretty slow day for our first foray in so we decided to stop early afternoon in Ganonoque. By then the wind was up and the only slip offered to me was out of the break wall so I had to go bow in as the knotty monkey was a giant sail going backwards. However the spot was beautiful and once docked I could look off the back of the boat down a long channel with the waves and wind coming toward me.

We decided to explore the town a bit and ended up eating at the Socialist Pig, which I HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking to eat here.

The next day we puttered around again and had morning cappuccino at the socialist pig which also has a coffee house. We had decided to stay in Gan an extra day because the weather reports said wind and thunderstorms all day. ( weather side note….we have found it really sucks, and on that day we got rain for about 3minutes total).
We also had our friends Cedar and Vanessa ( yes , Canada's favourite wine rep…again….groupie much??) visit us and come for dinner on the boat. Not much else to report for this day. All in all a great stop for this trip at a pretty nice municipal Marina.
